About

Toni Corbett grew up in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, where her connection to the water and coastal environment influences her work. With a background in creative media advertising agencies specialising in graphic design, photography, and visual culture, she developed a strong foundation in composition and color.

Now based between Merewether and her studio in Dungog, Toni focuses on translating her experiences into oil paintings. Over time, her practice has expanded from a focus on colour to an appreciation of form. Influenced by colourist painters like Suzanne Valadon and Alice Neel, she combines vibrant palettes with thoughtful composition to create work that conveys emotion and energy. Her paintings invite viewers to explore bold compositions and rich colour, capturing the movement and essence of coastal living.

Toni’s recent achievements include being named a semifinalist in the 2024 Newcastle Club Foundation Art Prize and having her work hung in the Viola Bromley Art Prize in Muswellbrook.
